This weekend I’m doing something a little bit outside the box. I’m heading with J. C. Towim to a Sci-Fi & Fantasy Convention here in KC. They’re doing a bunch of stuff for writers including a workshop where you sit down with a published author and they help you out with a manuscript.
My author is Alan Ryker. From what I can tell from his blog, he’s a local horror/dark fantasy writer. I tried really hard to get ahold of a book of his before the con, but it looks like he mostly e-publishes and it would take too long to get a hard copy shipped. I’m super excited to meet him though. I’d love to do a little more horror/dark fantasy stuff though I’ve never delved into that end of the genre. He seems quite down to earth through his e-mails.
The thing I’m most excited about is George R.R. Martin is going to be there doing a reading and book signing. I’ve heard that he can run hot and cold with his fans, but I can’t manage to squelch my excitement.
The whole thing starts tonight and runs through Sunday. If you’re interested, go check it out here. Also, go check out my critique author here. Also, let me know if you’ve read any of his stuff and what you think of him.
I’ll try to get some pictures to share with you guys if I can remember to bring my camera with me. I’ll also take notes of any panels I sit in on. I will be letting some of my inner geek shine through tomorrow. Afterall, it is Towel Day and I’ll be at a Sci-fi/Fantasy Con. I made an ode to Hitchhiker bag. Basically, it’s a towel bag with stripes that I appliqued “42” and “Don’t Panic” to the side of it. I also hung two little white mice from the edge.
Yeah, it’s great.
